Respectful Relationships (incorporating Gender Bender)
SEED Workshops’ presenters work their magic with our combined Gender Bender & Respectful Relationships workshops designed specifically, and tailored age-appropriately, for Year 5 - Year 12 students. We take a look at the way our society defines us based on gender, and how sexism plays out in the media, politics, pop culture and sometimes in the students' own lives. SEED Workshops encourage students to be respectful and aware of women's rights, including the plight of girls and women in less privileged parts of the world. Students gain insight into how unhelpful gender roles are for all of us - female and male.
In part 2 of this workshop, we help students develop the tools to create, navigate and maintain healthy relationships with particular focus on consent. Using a sensitive and age-appropriate approach, we look at ways to reframe discussions around sexual assault, developing critical thinking skills to combat victim-blaming. Students will also learn to set and respect boundaries, how to recognise unhealthy relationships, and to be UPstanders against bullying and harassment - not bystanders.

What students are saying about our Respectful Relationships module:
I thought today would be boring and pointless, but both workshops were excellent. The best part was when we analysed how differently the genders are judged by what they do, say or wear. Today I learnt how to recognise abusive relationships, about feminism, and stereotypes. It was great.
Melanie, Year 10
I really enjoyed hearing the stories, because you can relate to it in real life. I learnt to not be the creepy guy. I thought it was going to be boring, but it turned out to be very good.
Kevin, Year 9
The best thing about today was the relationship advice. It really helps students to realise what’s okay and what’s not okay in a relationship. I learnt how to not feel pressured by the media, and that girls can be strong. Thank you so much for today. I thought it would be something embarrassing or boring, but it wasn’t! I hope you will come back sometime!
Junrou, Year 10
Respectful Relationships really helped. I enjoyed learning about equality, respectful relationships and dating tips. It was excellent.
Jayden, Year 9
The Respectful Relationships workshop was my favourite as people today jump into things without thinking about it. I’m glad the boys were hearing it too. I learnt how to have a good relationship, about sexism, and that we should fight for our rights. The speaker was amazing and funny, and I’d love to see her talk again.
Paige Yr10
My favourite part was watching the role-plays because they were funny. I learnt things about movies, video games, that girls get paid less, girls don’t get appreciated, and that men need to have certain things to ‘be a man’. I thought it would be alright today but it was excellent!
Frank, Year 9
I enjoyed the whole thing because it was interesting and informative. I learnt about healthy/unhealthy relationships, gender stereotypes, feminism, and how to recognise an abusive relationship. It was all excellent! Don’t change anything!
Rafaela, Year 10
What teachers are saying:
"Thank you so much for your presentation last Tuesday. When I was scrolling through workshops to run with our students, this was EXACTLY what I had in mind; something which would be engaging and really raise awareness about core issues that are relevant to our students. Not only did your presentation promote discussion amongst students, but it also allowed for rich discussion between teachers and students and between staff members. I would highly recommend your brand of workshop – using humour and historical facts to debunk stereotypes and stigma surrounding certain issues. Thanks again for a wonderful experience."
